Sue Ryder (1923-2000) była brytyjską społeczniczką, działaczką charytatywna i wolontariuszka brytyjskiego Special Operations Executive podczas drugiej wojny światowej. Jest ona szczególnie wspominana w Polsce za pracę na rzecz ofiar wojny, oraz akcje charytatywne po upadku komunizmu. Z biegiem lat założyła kilka fundacji na całym świecie, w tym w Polsce, które nadal prowadzą działalność charytatywną. W 1978 roku został mianowana baronowa Warszawy i Cavendish i otrzymała miejsce w brytyjskiej Izbie Lordów. W 2006 roku zachodnia część parku Wielkopolskiego na warszawskiej Ochocie została nazwana Skwerem Sue Ryder. To bardzo miłe miejsce na spokojny spacer niedaleko od ruchliwego śródmieścia Warszawy. W większej, wschodniej części parku znajdują się dwa place zabaw dla dzieci oraz teren do gry w bule i ping ponga. Od wschodniej strony znajduje się niewielka kawiarnia, w której obejrzeć można ciekawą wystawę fotografii przedwojennej Ochoty. W rogu, niedaleko skrzyżowania Filtrowej i Górnickiego można podziwiać kilka bardzo imponujących starych jesionów.

Sue Ryder (1923-2000) was a British social worker, charity founder and a WWII volunteer with the British Special Operations Executive. She is especially remembered in Poland for her relief work immediately after the war and then again in the aftermath of the fall of communism. Over the years she set up several foundations around the world, including one in Poland, which continue her charitable cause. In 1978 she was made a life peer as the Baroness of Warsaw and Cavendish and held a seat in the British House of Lords. In 2006 the western section of the Wielkopolski Park in Warsaw’s Ochota district was named Sue Ryder Square. This is a nice place for a quiet walk not far from Warsaw’s busy downtown. The larger eastern part of the park includes two playgrounds for children and an area for playing boules and ping pong. There is also a café at the eastern entrance, which features an interesting exhibit of pre-WWII photographs of the area. In the corner near the intersection of Filtrowa and Górnickiego street and you can find some very impressive old Ash trees.
