Geocache Description:

The Two Towers

High in the hills above Nimbin sits two television transmitter towers that have broadcast television to household in the Northern Rivers for decades. The RTN and ABRN6 towers are high atop Mt Nardi, which is accessible via a sealed narrow road from Nimbin. It's also a starting point for a few good walks through World Heritage listed rainforest. Mt Nardi is located in Nightcap National Park. The old mail trail from Murwillumbah to Lismore cuts through here also. It was a 3 day journey by horse to get the mail through.

The cache is not at the listed co-ordinates. It's located outside of the National Park - but to find it, you'll need to take a look at the two towers.

Tower 1: The listed coordinates listed take you to the main gate of this tower. It's primary purpose was the analogue broadcast of Lismore's RTN television station. This later became part of NRTV (Northern Rivers Television). You need to note down the old RTN channel number. There's large letters on the brickwork behind the main gates.."RTN __ Transmitter". You cant miss it. Let this number be X in the final co-ordinates.

Tower 2: Wander up a little higher, past the National Parks information sign to S 28° 32.685 E 153° 17.299. This is the ABRN6 directional transmission tower, and feeds Digital TV to most households from the Gold Coast to Grafton and out to Tenterfield. Awe in it's capacity. All 200kW of it. It is her we have to blame for morning television programs and Aussie soap operas infiltrating out homes. Have a look for a yellow & black sign on the gate that warns us silly folk not to enter then complex, as there is a certain type of radiation present. Let Y = the number next to the correct sort of radiation that could fry you if you dare try to get too close:

1 = Electro-Magnetic
2 = Radio-Frequency
3 = Microwave

You'll find the actual cache at: S 28° 33.1X7 E 153° 16.8Y0

Substitute X & Y from the above clues and you'll have no worries finding GZ. Careful of snakes in warmer weather.  You're looking for an ammo can loaded with swaps.
