Geocache Description:

A short but somewhat challenging hike up Pistapaug mountain to a great view and a cache.

Our second hide! We love going up Pistapaug mountain when the weather is nice. It is a fairly short hike but includes a robust climb at the beginning that is sure to get your heart pumping.

We have been meaning to place a hide here for quite a while now, as we hike this path fairly regularly. It is a nice trail and has a great view of Pistapaug pond about half way through the trail.

There are two ways to get to this cache, the first from the trailhead starting at the parking coordinates. The other is from where the trail comes out on Rt 17, I did not get parking coords for that trailhead. I may get them some other time, or, if some cacher wants to take a reading for me if they come in from that end I will add it to the listing.

When in season there are TONS of raspberry bushes all over the place along the trail. I have gone up on this path and picked a sandwich bag full of berries fully ripe and ready to enjoy. If you go for this cache while they are in season, bring a bag along and take a few minutes to grab some for yourself. They are delicious!

I am setting the terrain at 2.5 because the first 0.2 miles of this hike are a pretty formidable uphill chug. It will certainly make you feel like you got some activity in when you are done! Once you get to the top it levels off and is pretty easy from there. Follow the path towards the cache when you get to the area, you will see an opening which includes a really nice view of Pistapaug Pond. It is a nice place to sit down and have a quick lunch if you wish or just sit and enjoy the view. Unfortunately, some people have left some broken glass in the area, so be careful where you sit. The cache is a few hundred feet off the path form where the view is, it shouldn't be too difficult to find, so I am not leaving a hint. Left a trackable I took from our recent trip to Germany for the FTF! Good luck!
