The Southeast Missouri country side is a beautiful place to take a weekend drive, which we have done several times lately. We decided we wanted to leave a trail of caches to entice some other cacners to come out and enjoy some of the scenery we've come across "out in the country" lately.
Welcome to the historic town of Altenburg! You'll enjoy Americana at its finest here! Make time to visit the Lutheran Heritage Museum as Altenburg is the site of one of the two original villages founded by the German Lutherans who came to this country to enjoy religious freedom. Take time to travel further into the country side to visit Tower Rock, with both a traditional and an earth cache to be had. Come with plenty of time to enjoy the scenery in this Mississippi River Valley community and check out the nearby series of SLM caches while you are here.
This cache is placed to celebrate two amazing weekends braving the Mississippi River with kayaks to climb to the top of Tower Rock during the river's low stage. Amazing times in this part of the country!! (Cache was placed with the permission - and some good placement suggestions - of the property owner.)
