Geocache Description:

Ceci est la deuxième d’une série de 8 caches (+1 bonus), dédiées au célèbre reporter Tintin et à son aventure dans « L’affaire Tournesol » qui se déroule, en partie, en Suisse.
This is the second cache of a serie of 8 (+ 1 bonus), with the theme of the famous reporter Tintin and his adventure in « The Calculus Affair » which part of it takes place in Switzerland.

Voyageant en Suisse afin d’assister à un congrès de physique nucléaire, le professeur Tournesol s’installe à l’Hôtel Cornavin, dans la chambre 122. Deux ans avant la publication de « L’affaire Tournesol » Hergé avait fait un voyage en Suisse romande pour se documenter (repérages) à l’aéroport et à Nyon, entre autres, et logea dans le même hôtel, dans la chambre 210. Proche du lac Léman, l’Hôtel Cornavin est l’un des hôtels les plus populaires de Genève. C’est là que Tintin et Haddock séjournent avant de manquer Tournesol et de partir à Nyon.

« L’affaire Tournesol » a été publiée par Hergé en 1956. L’un des plus grands dessinateurs de BD du XXe siècle avait choisi la Suisse, et plus particulièrement Nyon, pour pimenter l’intrigue de la disparition du professeur Tournesol. Ce personnage est d’ailleurs inspiré par le scientifique Auguste Piccard, grand-père de Bertrand Piccard lui-même amateur de Tintin!

Curiosité: L'hôtel héberge la plus grande horloge mécanique du monde qui, avec une longueur totale de 30 mètres, est suspendue entre le 9^e étage et le rez-de-chaussée du bâtiment. Vous pouvez aussi voir une sculpture de Tintin et Milou à l'entrée de l'hôtel.

Tintin in Switzerland 2 – Hotel Cornavin, Geneva

Traveling to Switzerland to take part on a Congress of Nuclear Physics, professor Calculus checks-in room 122 of Cornavin Hotel in Geneva. Two years before « The Calculus Affair » publication, Hergé travelled to the French part of Switzerland to do research at the airport, Nyon and other places and had registered on the same hotel, room 210. Near to Lake Geneva, the Cornavin Hotel it’s a popular tourist destination in the town of Geneva. It is there that Tintin and Haddock stays before missing to find Calculus and depart to Nyon.

« The Calculus Affair » was published by Hergé in 1956. One of 20^th century biggest comics author had chosen Switzerland and specially Nyon, to spice up the plot of professor Calculus kidnap. This character was inspired by the famous scientist Auguste Piccard, great-father of Bertrand Piccard, himself Tintin’s fan.

Curiosity: The Hotel Cornavin has the biggest mechanical clock in the world, with a total legnth of 30 meters. It is suspended between 9 floor and ground zero. You can also see a sculpture of Tintin and Snowy at the entrance of the hotel.
