Geocache Description:

The Gunsmoke Series consists of five caches in honor of the five prominent characters in the series.  The TV series started on September 10, 1955 (which is the day date I hope to get these released on).   The information was gathered from Google, Wikipedia, and other Google sources.

The cache is locatated with in a few feet of the parking spot.

The Gunsmoke series on the radio ran from 1952 to 1961.  In 1955 the television series started and ran for 20 seasons to 1975.  It is the longest running prime time live action series with 635 episodes.  The radio series aired from April 26, 1952 to June 18, 1961 with William Conrad as Marshall Matt Dillion.  The TV series ran from September 10, 1955 to March 31, 1975.  The first twelve seasons aired on Saturdays at 10:00, seasons thirteen to sixteen aired on Mondays at 7:30, the last four season were on Mondays at 8:00.  Casting James Arness as Marshall Matt Dillion was recomended by John Wayne.  "Doc" Adams, played by Milburn Stone was on the first episode, he and Arness were cast for the twenty year run of the program.  Other long time cast members were Dennis Weaver as Chester Goode, and Amanda Blake as Miss Kitty Russell.  The TV series started with half-hour episodes from 1955 top 1961.  From 1961 to 1966 it was an hour show in black-and-white.  The last nine seassons were one hour long, but were in color.  In 2002 the TV Guide ranked Gunsmoke as number 40 of the top 50 greatest shows of all time..  James Arness (Matt), Milburn Stone (Doc), Ken Curtis (Festus), Dennis Weaver (Chester), and Amanda Blake ( Miss Kitty) are all inductees of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.  Dodge City Boot Hill Museum has a tribute to Gunsmoke including furnature from the show and an old TV tuned to the show.

Chester Goode, as played by Dennis Weaver (06/04/24 to 02/24/06).  Weaver was a native of Missouri being born in Joplin, Mo.
Chester was known to be one of many brothers rasied by an aunt and uncle, he mentioned his mother only in one episode.  He refered to his past service in the calvary and years as a cattle driver in Texas.  The casue of chester's stiff leg was never given.  (In 1948 he completed 6th in the U.S. Olympic Decathlon Team, but only 3 went on to compete in the Olympics).  No direct reference was ever made to his disability in the script.

Permission was gained from the County Commissoners to place these caches.
