Geocache Description:

Located on the bridge, south west of and in the shadow of Stonehenge (just look around), between what was once the general store and the blacksmith shop overlooking Calkin’s Creek. BYOP
 

On the way to Calkin’s  cemetery we came across this beautiful bucolic setting which we felt was just a perfect place for a cache.  It’s located in Boyds Mills, Pennsylvania.  You see, Boyds Mills was originally known as Eldred, PA., and being so close to Eldred, NY which is just across the river, the postmaster at the time circa 1860’s asked Mary Boyd, who ran the post office to see if she could rename the post office so mail going to Eldred, NY would not go to Eldred, PA.  After much deliberation they named the town Boyds Mills after the Boyd family and the three mills they had along Calkin’s Creek; a saw mill, grist mill and a shingle mill.  Many members of the Boyd family are buried in the Calkin’s Cemetery.  The general store now houses a financial planner and is the home Highlights Foundation, the children’s reader books we all knew, loved and read as a child.  All this was related to us by a wonderful gentleman named Kent Brown.
