Autour de Boiry 41 - Roeux British Cimetery


Informations de nature historique

Roeux a été construit sur un système de grottes qui ont contribué à faire sa capture en 1917 exceptionnellement difficile. Il a été attaqué par le 9 (Scottish) Division, sans succès, le 12 Avril. Le produit chimique fonctionne à proximité de la gare ont été prises par la 51e Division (Highland) le 22 Avril, et après incessante lutte contre le village a été autorisé par la Division de même le 14 mai. Les usines chimiques ont été perdus le 16 mai, et il a finalement été prise par la 51e division sur la suivante 26 Août.

Roeux Cimetière britannique a été faite par des unités de combat entre Avril et Novembre 1917.

Le cimetière contient les tombes de 350 et des commémorations de la Première Guerre mondiale. 31 des sépultures ne sont pas identifiés et 82 tombes détruites par les obus sont maintenant représentés par des monuments spéciaux.



Historical Information

Roeux was built over a system of caves which helped to make its capture in 1917 exceptionally difficult. It was attacked by the 9th (Scottish) Division without success on 12 April. The chemical works close to the railway station were taken by the 51st (Highland) Division on 22 April, and after incessant fighting the village was cleared by the same Division on 14 May. The chemical works were lost on 16 May, and it was finally taken by the 51st Division on the following 26 August.

Roeux British Cemetery was made by fighting units between April and November 1917.

The cemetery contains 350 burials and commemorations of the First World War. 31 of the burials are unidentified and 82 graves destroyed by shell fire are now represented by special memorials.
