This 30 cal ammo can and contents was a birthday present for Mom41!! She got to choose the hiding spot ~ it's a great location just off the Panhandle Trail in Rennerdale!
We grew up in this area and remember when the trail was railroad tracks. The several quarry ponds you'll encounter along the way used to be teaming with fish and rumor had it kids swam in them!! I remember a school field trip from the old Rennerdale Elementary to Fossil's Cliff. Apparently this was a rite of passage for all the 3rd graders - thanks to Mrs. Stewart. The cache is located near Fossil's Cliff. Recently, and Eagle Scout has made it his project to mark the trail with a few signs - so you'll know it when you get there - and you can snag Mom41's cache on the way. When we placed the cache, we found one really cool fossil and several iffy ones - Mom wouldn't part with the cool one, but the iffy ones are in the cache. It isn't too hard to find the fossils - just keep turning over rocks - you'll find one! It took me about 20 min of searching to get the really cool one! Also in the cache is a nifty First To Find prize of a certificate and Gold Dollar coin. Mom41's very own first Travel Bug is also inside, ready to launch. I'd love to hear if any cacher's find awesome fossils!! Closest parking is at Rennerdale lot off Suburban Avenue. You can also park at mile zero in Walker's Mill for a nice hike past the quarry ponds.
