Geocache Description:

Jokkmokk Church was built in 1753 to the design of Lars Sundborn. It is a wooden church that is much smaller than the new town church. The church was badly damaged by fire in 1972 and had to be rebuilt. The exterior is as it was formerly, but the interior has been completely redesigned.

Around the church is a bogårdsmur, a kind of enclosed wall in which coffins were traditionally kept during the freezing winter months, when it was too cold to dig the ground to bury them.

The cache is hidden outside of this wall, don’t go caching in the church grounds.

Jokkmokks kyrka byggdes 1753 och designades av Lars Sundborn. Det är en träkyrka som är mycket mindre än samhällets nya kyrka. Kyrkan skadades allvarlig i en brand 1972 men återuppbygdes. Exteriören ser ut som den nedbrunna byggnaden, men interiören är helt av helt ny design.

Runt kyrkan finns en slags bogårdsmur, men byggd av trä. Det är en timrad konstruktion där man tidigare förvarade kistor vintertid då tjälen gjorde att man inte kunde gräva gravar.

Cachen är gömd utanför denna konstruktion, inte inne på kyrkotomten.
