This cache has been archived.

Behistun: I had every hope of restoring this cache until I got there and saw what had befallen this once fantastic place. The track railings were gone and the roadway has gone to seed. The stairway into the park was taped off with do not enter signs. There was trash everywhere. The two homeless people lying on the benches sealed it. It is with great sadness that I archive this former gem.

Thanks to all who made the trip to this spot ...

Geocache Description:

Welcome to Fort Knox RC Park

In the North-Central Bronx, on a bend in the Bronx River just below Gun Hill Road, there is a unique park called the Fort Knox RC park. The park is owned by the City, but the track was built and maintained by the model auto racing community. Fans and enthusiasts gather here to race their model vehicles on a sculpted track in the only park dedicated to remote controlled miniature auto racing in the Bronx.


There are different size and fuel classes, and the cars vary in price from about fifty dollars to the thousands. On any given day you may find one or more people testing out their vehicles, and there are scheduled races, often on Sundays, when large crowds will gather to watch the Bronx version of NASCAR. Much of the Bronx can be somewhat dangerous for the unwary casual visitor, and the Gun Hill area is no exception, but like many people who are passionately involved in an activity (wink, wink) I have found the participants in this hobby are friendly and readily talk about the source of their enthusiasm. The Cache: Cache is a decon container which we won at the Picnic in Peekskill event. Parking is plentiful on the streets nearby, and I have always been able to park very close to GZ. Cache is very close to, but out of direct line of sight of the main track. Though well hidden, there is constant passage of muggles here, so stealth is necessary. We could have made it much more difficult, but we figured if we got you this far, we don't want to see many DNF's. While here, check out the bend in the Bronx river at the rear of the park, and feel free to chat up some of the locals. They'll tell you anything you want to know! As of 10/19/13, cache is a cammoed Lock'n'Lock.
