Omya A/S som driver Stevns Kridtbrud indgår i den familieejede schweiziske koncern Omya A/G. Kridt fra Stevns er blevet markedsført helt tilbage fra 1892, men først fra 1967 begyndte oparbejdning af kridt ved Stevns Kridtbrud. I 1982 blev det første kridt til papirfyldstof sendt på markedet. I dag bruges hovedparten af produktionen fra fabrikken til papirfyldstof. Fabrikken er placeret netop her, fordi det er det eneste sted på Stevns Klint, hvor der ikke er kalk oven på kridtet og fordi kridt fra Stevns er relativt rent og homogent. Kridtlaget på Stevns er 800-1000m tykt. Der er givet tilladelse til at grave 28m under havets overflade.

 

 

Omya A/S which is running Stevns Kridtbrud is part of the family-owned Swiss group Omya A/G. Chalk from Stevns has been marketed as far back as 1892, but from 1967 began reprocessing of chalk at Stevns Kridtbrud. In 1982, the first chalk to paper filler was put on the market. Today the majority of the production at the factory is used for paper filler. The factory is located here because it is the only place on Stevns Klint, where there is no lime on top of the chalk and because of the chalk from Stevns Klint is relatively clean and homogeneous. The chalk layer on Stevns is 800-1000m thick. It has been authorized to dig 28m below sea level.
