Geocache Description:

The NG Kerk Newcastle

Shortly after the proclamation of Newcastle as a town in 1864, the first Dutch Reformed Church, built in 1869 in Lennoxton neighborhood, was erected. In 1882 the town was officially founded and is currently the sixth oldest town in KwaZulu - Natal. Over the years, the congregation has been served by 13 ministers, including the current pastor, Reverend. SW Scott, more than 26 years in this congregation.

Across the road is one of the oldest houses in Newcastle around 100 years old.
Facing across the road is the Newcastle Provincial hospital. Take note of the corner stone on the wall around the church. It was placed on my birthday 94 years earlier.
