Geocache Description:

Elephant's Trail Head
Inside the 7300 acre Elephant's Head forest preserve, Elephant's Head is a quick hike with a great view of Lake Titus and Canada to the North. Great for beginners and kids. A good one for just stretching your legs.

The original, which has been archived, got me to stop here and discover this under-rated little peak. Hopefully this will entice you to stop and take a hike by bringing you further up the trail.

It is an easy walk up to the trail head a bit over a mile along a good woods road. You can also drive up with some ground clearance. We made it up with my Ford Contour with some maneuvering around a minor washout and some wide puddles.
UPDATE - I was so happy to see that DEC work crew last summer. They repaired the road and it looks great - unfortunately, they also installed a gate that is locked. So ... new road that you don't get to drive on.
Still the walk is nice. From the trail head it is about half a mile to the summit. Along the way watch for partridge, turkey, deer and chipmunks. In the evening you can also hear the loons on nearby Lake Titus. The eastern side of the peak has a great view to the north of Lake Titue and Mount Immortelle while the western side has a southern view of Debar, Jenkins and St.Regis mountains in the distance.

7/20/2019 - the road is open and much improved! Driving up to the trailhead is now a pleasant drive. And they installed a visitor log station. The small lock and lock contains some critters for swapping and Ella Funt who likes to go hiking but lives in the cache.
There is also a dollar bill for the First to find.
Bring Ella and take her picture she loves to go hiking with you. Make sure you put her back in the cache when you return to the trail head.
