Geocache Description:

Cache not available when covered in snow. Please don't go thru gate as this would be trespassing.

This cache was placed to commemorate the 100th birthday of Girl Scouting in 2012.  Girl Scouts was started by Juliette Gordon Low, in Savannah, Georgia in March 1912.  She actually copied the idea after a visit with Lord Baden Powell, who founded Boy Scouts in England two year before. Juliette and her cousin started the first troop and Juliette's niece is the first registered Girl Scout on record. Girl Scouts in other countries are called Girl Guides.  All together, there are over ten million Girl Scouts in the USA and Girl Guides worldwide, in 145 different countries!

Did you know that every female astronaut in the U.S. was once a Girl Scout?! As was two-thirds of all women in Congress?!

The gate in front of the cache leads to a camp that has been the site of many local Girl Scout Camporees, usually held in spring time.  These Camporees involve all the troops on the south shore of Tahoe, on both the Nevada and California sides. Our family has attended many of these Camporees and have fond memories of them.

Items in the cache that are Girl Scout themed:  bookmarks, tattoos/stickers, refrigerator magnets, patches, and a 100th year bumper sticker.
Non-Girl Scout items include: rings, cocktail umbrellas, and an eraser.

Remember the Girl Scout motto:  Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
Enjoy the cache!

P.S. On a one-way road with no turn around for extra-long vehicles like motorhomes or RVs. P.S.S. The golf course next to the cache is the Edgewood, site of the annual celebrity golf tournament each July.
