Easy cache to take you to Victoria Park, Stretford. Have a look around and enjoy the park!
A very simple cache that I've placed to replace the two Victoria Park caches that have disappeared over the past few years - let's hope this one remains for a while! It's just round the corner from where I live so hopefully I'll be able to keep an eye on it; I've got a horrible feeling it might be too conspicuous, so if it goes missing I'll have to rethink it. The cache is hidden in a convenient place for cache-and-dashing just off Park Road/Barton Road. Access is excellent and flat, but wheelchair users might struggle to reach the cache without assistance.
"Victoria Park, Stretford was opened on the 15th November 1902 which is the date showing on the plaque by the magnificent gates leading into the park from the corner of Victoria Road and School Road. These gates were presented to the park to celebrate the reign of Queen Victoria and it must have been a grand unveiling and opening in Stretford.
The park itself was built to replace 'The Rec' which was a football pitch sized area of land on the site of Henshaw Street (very close to Victoria Park's situation today). 'The Rec' came into being around 1890 and had separate playgrounds for boys and girls. We know that the coronation celebrations for Edward VII were held on 'The Rec' on the 26th June 1902 and so presume that Victoria Park must not have been open at this time." - from Trafford Council's website.
The Albert bit of the cache name is a tenuous reference to the German Lutheran church over the road from GZ - "Martin-Luther-Kirche".
Congrats to phspid and CRAZY BONES for the FTF (and commiserations to jamange for being a close second!), all within a few minutes of the listing going live!
PLEASE put the cache back as you found it - it should be vertical, and yes, it is magnetic :-)
