Geocache Description:

you are looking for a small plastic container, with some unique camouflage, that blends in well with the hide. Good luck!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO ROOSTER6 FOR THE FTF!!!

This cache is located along side the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne, & Chicago railway, on what was called the "panhandle" route.  This spots holds a lot of historical significance, and personal. This is a co-hide with classixiii. This was a favorite childhood spot of classixiii, and being there it is easy to see why. Below is just a little of the history at this location.

DICKSON  LOG HOUSE

The log house was constructed along an Indian path that was the course of Colonel Henry Bouquet's 1764 expedition to the Ohio country, and in Revolutionary times, the patriot forces of General Lachlan MacIntosh. General Anthony Wayne retraced this road on his successful campaign against the Ohio Indians in 1793-94. This path ultimately became Brighton Road, also known as Beaver Road. Generally the Brighton name is used from Pittsburgh's north side to Ben Avon and Beaver from Emsworth through Sewickley and on into Beaver County. The road was improved and relocated until it was largely supplanted by the construction of the Ohio River Boulevard.

EMSWORTH LOCK &DAM

Construction began at Emsworth in 1919 and continued until 1922, with the locks first opening in September 1921. The facility replaced three older wicket-type dams which were constructed between 1877 and 1915. They were: the original Lock and Dam 1 on the Ohio River at Davis Island (completed in 1885); the original Lock and Dam 1 on the Allegheny (1902); and Lock and Dam 1 on the Monongahela (1915). Davis Island Lock and Dam was the first federally built navigation project and served as a model for the 52 wicket dams built on the Ohio River to permit reliable river traffic from Pittsburgh to Cairo, Ill.
