Many people come out to Tower Rock Conservation Area and are so struck by Grand Tower Island, that big rock column sticking up out of the river, that they never seem to notice the overlook available for viewing the tower and the river from the bluff above.
This cache will take you to the observation platform on the bluff above the Mississippi and the Grand Tower Island. The view from that platform is simply stunning.
Please note that the cache is reachable from the path. There is no need to go above the platform or under the fence. That bluff could lead to a real good owie, so don't do that! :)
Grand Tower Island has a long an colorful history involving pirates, slavers, the US Military, The Confederate Military, quarry operators, explorers, President Grant, Lewis and Clark, German Lutheran Pilgrims, countless artists and the Native American peoples who lived in the area for centuries before we got here.
