Geocache Description:

A memorial Cairn to a remarkable man, who tunneled for the Royal Canadian Engineers.

He led the construction of the nearby Hydro Electric Tunnel... linking the River Spey to Loch Laggan in order to vastly improve the flow of water required for the smelting of Aluminium for the war effort.

He was awarded the George Cross (posthumusly), in recognition of most conspicuous gallantry in carrying out hazardous work in a very brave manner." Cpl. Hendry was in charge of an underground working party. A fire broke out in a powder magazine at Loch Laggan in Scotland. After ensuring all his men were clear he returned to the magazine to attempt to put out the fire himself but the magazine exploded and killed him.
