Möckelö Traditional Geocache

[SV] Denna cache är placerad vid Möckelös östra strand strax söder om en badplats. Härifrån kan man se Mariehamn och västra hamnen där badhuset en gång låg.

 

[EN] This cache is placed at Möckelös eastern beach just south of a bathing area. From here you can see Mariehamn and the western harbour where the bathhouse once stood.

[SV] Runt sekelskiftet 1900 blomstrade bad- och kurortsturismen i badhusepokens Mariehamn. 1913 satte världskriget stopp för verksamheten och när badhotellet brann 1916 var slutet definitivt. Platsen där badhotellet stod heter idag Badhusparken. Förutom badhotellet och de många byggnaderna kring den hörde även Möckelö havsbad till anläggningen. Efter badhusepoken dröjde det 20 år innan turismen kom tillbaka till Mariehamn.

 

[EN] At the turn of the century, 1900, a bathing and spa tourism flourished in Mariehamn, during the so called bathhouse era. 1913 the world war put a stop to the business and when the bathhouse burned down at 1916 the end was definitive. The place where the bathhouse once stood is now called "Badhusparken" (The Bathhouse park). Apart from the bathhouse and the many other buildings around, Möckelö sea bath also was a part of the bathhouse complex. After the bathhouse era it took some 20 years before tourism returned to Mariehamn.
