One of Prince Edward Island's most endearing characteristics is the rich, red earth and one of the great highlights of any Island trip is the chance to drive the famous red dirt roads. These rural routes date back to the first days of settlement, and many are now protected under the province's Scenic Heritage Road Program. These magnificent drives wind their way through fantastic canopies of trees - in some spots it's like you're driving through a tunnel in the forest. Although perhaps not the best choices in early spring or after a good rain, the red dirt roads are among the most scenic drives anywhere, so take your foot off the gas and enjoy the view. Just be prepared for the fact that the red dirt will get everywhere, even in dry weather. Its part of the journey!
Dromore Road is a little over 6km long (the RDR part of it that is) and runs in an L shape between Fort Augustas Road and High Bridge Road. It runs along the west and south sides of the Dromore Woodland Trails and should be navigable througout most of the year. All caches are between 1m and 2m from the ground and within a few meters of the road. Please BYOP!
