Geocache Description:

This cache is located beside Deerlick Creek in Brookbanks Park.

City plaques explain that 40,000 years ago, Native people observed that deer were drawn to certain minerals in the creek.  In the late 1980's and early 1990's, a curator from the Royal Ontario Museum, Dr. Mima Kapches led several digs in yards backing onto this ravine.  Discoveries included a Meadowood Cache blade dating back to 1000 BC, one of the oldest ever discovered, and a small pebble with the image of a human face dating to 4700 BC, one of the oldest dated human representations in North America.  In addition, a large amount of early Iroquoian pottery and remnants of open-pit firing led researchers to hypothesize that this area was used for seasonal pottery production.

The area in which the cache is hidden is currently a mountain bike pump park with small jumps fashioned out of logs and earth. If you cross Brookbanks Road into the other side of the ravine, you can search for another cache "Rooting Around in Brookbanks Park", and check out the very nice splashpad and playground a little further along the trail.

The cache itself is a small camoed lock 'n lock container, containing a log book and pencil, and some small trading items. FTF prize is a Tim's card -enjoy!
