THE OUTDOOR POOL
Dunbar Lido

What had begun as the Ladies Pond in the 1880s became by the 1930s the largest open air pool in Scotland. By the late 1960s, as well as diving competitions, swimming galas and late night fireworks, the regular Bathing Beauty Competitions, had become a major attraction. The outdoor pool finally closed in the 1980s.

Wander down right onto the beach where the Lido used to be and see what features you can recognise.

Watch this video to revel in the days gone by. Many thanks to Radgepoot for providing this video link and helping me to make up this cache page.

There is an Information Panel at N 56 00247, W 002 31.173 where you can read more about the pool and see some contemporary photographs of the pool in its heyday.
