Geocache Description:

Welcome. Appropriately, this geo-challenge (letterbox hybrid) begins at a large mural in the heart of downtown Naperville. You must solve the clues at all seven “murals” in order to find the final cache. I’ve updated this cache. I have updated from my when I first posted this. It was insanely, hard. I’ve made it much easier with hints for every stage. Should be much more enjoyable. Kudos to those who solved it from the start.

MURAL #1: (beginning coordinates)

This mural depicts the evolution of travel, including the DuPage River, Old Plank Road, the railroad, and the Lima Flight Team. The Lima Lima flight team (six single-wing aircraft) in this mural have clear identifying numbers on the nose of each of their aircraft. Add them together to reveal the mystery number and the missing coordinates to Mural #2.

Enjoy!

XXX= 129 + (mystery number)

YYY = 792 + (mystery number)

MURAL #2:   N41° 46.XXX W 088° 08.YYY

A well know comedian on Rowan and Martin’s “Laugh In” performed a classic character sketch relating to the outdated technology portrayed in this mural (“Telephone switchboard operator.”).

What is the name of the character in the “Laugh In” sketch? What is the number of letters in this character’s name? The mystery number (X) is your answer and reveals the missing coordinates to locate Mural #3.

MURAL #3:   N41° 46.34X W 088° 08.X84

There is an airplane illustrated in this mural. What’s the planes identifying number? Every aircraft in the world has a unique registration number. In USA this number is called an N-number since it starts with an N. Use the three digit number to reveal the missing coordinates to locate the next Mural.

Correctly identify the mystery number associated with it to reveal the missing coordinates to the next mural.

What is represented in this mosaic artwork that might be particularly beneficial to farmers? The larvae of butterflies, are important to farmers and gardeners in helping to control plant growth. Butterflies also help in pollination. How many butterflies do you count? The correct number will reveal the missing coordinates to Mural #5.

MURAL #5: N 41 ° 46.X94  W088 ° 09.025

MURAL #6:   N41° 46.XXX  W088° 08.884

In this mural find the nostalgic event that use to take place in Naperville. This event was called a “Cornfest.” What date was it scheduled for in the mural? Use the Month and Day to identify a three digit mystery number. Your answer will reveal the missing coordinates to Mural #7
