Could this event involve playing bagpipes on the top of Ben Nevis?
Well if you want to head up there on a cold February night it’s up to you
.
Alternatively you could head for the warm lounge of The Ben Nevis Hotel for a chance to meet West Bromwich (the “Baggies”) Mountaineering Club during their annual “Winter Week” in the Scottish Highlands.
There are a few members of the club who have geocached (although 2 of them have not logged many of their finds)
For around 20 years these winter weeks have been based at hotels in Newtonmore but 2012 saw WBMC break with tradition and stay at Fort William for ease of bagging the many Munros, Marilyns, Corbetts, Grahams & Humps in the Glencoe and Lochaber regions. Fort William and The Ben Nevis Hotel seem a much better location to hold an evening event in winter!
WBMC’s main geocacher Signyred has enjoyed finding many caches north of the border and meeting up with some of the Scottish cachers at MEGA events and now feels it’s his opportunity to thank them by organising an event for them, which will involve him placing some more caches locally.
He already has 7 earthcaches north of the border:-
AN STEALL EARTHCACHE
STAC POLLAIGH EARTHCACHE
AN TEALLACH EARTHCACHE
GRITTY GRANITE EARTHCACHE
GRIPPY GABBRO EARTHCACHE
“IN A SPIN” CORRYVRECKAN EARTHCACHE
& Coire a'Cheud-Chnoic,
2 multicaches:-
ANGRY PUSSY? plus
A WEE DRAM (WHW)
& many traditional caches, often near mountian tops.
There's also the mystery cache NASTY NANO AT NEWTONMORE in Scotland. He is very grateful to the local folk who have helped him get these listed or helped with maintenance and this event will give him the chance to say thank you properly.
There will hopefully be 6 or 7 caches close to the hotel awaiting FTF’s on the night PLUS a raffle or tombola to help the West Midlands MEGA Committe raise some funds for the UK 2013 event PLUS a couple of lucky dip prizes, so come along with your head torch and a biro.
There will also be a chance to chat, drink, look at or swop trackables…and even play the bagpipes if you care to bring them along.
Meet up from around 6pm to sign in. The new cache details will be given out around 7.30pm before the 'Baggies' have to head off for their evening meal so folk will have a chance to nip out a few hundred yards to try for some "First to Finds" or can stay in the warm and chat. The event will conclude at around 9.00pm with the lucky dip and the draw for the event FTF, but people are free to stay chatting and drinking for as long as they wish.
