Geocache Description:

This cache is located near Capel y Groes, just north of the village of Llanwnnen. It should make for an easy cache n' dash.

The cache is placed close to Capel y Groes, which is one of thirteen Unitarian chapels in south Ceredigion. The Unitarians are a small, liberal non-conformist denomination, and the area between the rivers Teifi and Aeron is one of the rare Unitarian heartlands in the world. The denomination was considered heretical by Christians in days gone by. Indeed, this area is still colloquially known as "Y Smotyn Du" - the "Black Spot" - the derogatory name once given to the area by Welsh Methodists, many years ago.

Ultimately, it would be nice to have a geocache at each of the chapels on the local Unitarian Trail map, but this may have to wait until retirement! I have chosen this particular chapel for the cache site, as a beautiful set of mosaics can be observed in front of the Chapel. There is also an informative display which tells of the chapel's rich history. One of these mosaics (featured on this page) bears the words "Rhyddid, Cariad, Goddefgarwch" - "Freedon, Love, Tolerance" - a motto of the Unitarian denomination.

Please place the cache securely in its hiding place when you're finished! The cache should wedge in perfectly. Stealth required as there is a house overlooking the cache site...
