Fisherman's Village Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

happycrazyrobot!: I've decided to put this one down since I no longer live in the area. I will hopefully find a similar location elsewhere to implement the same container. Thanks for all the fav points and I hope everyone enjoyed this one!

Geocache Description:

HCR!'s latest project. Plastic small container. Rubber ball that lights up when bounced for FTF!

PLEASE LIFT AND REMOVE THE GEOCACHE FROM THE SUPPORT DEVICE. UNSCREW CAP OF CACHE OUT OF VIEW. BEHIND THE FISHERMAN'S VILLAGE SIGN IS PERFECT. ONLY THE CACHER'S SHINS AND FEET ARE VISIBLE TO MUGGLES. AFTER SCREWING CAP BACK ON SNUGLY ENOUGH SO THAT COLORS ALIGN, RETURN CACHE TO HOLDING PLACE WITH ARROW ON LID FACING NORTH. YOU'LL KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS WHEN YOU GRAB IT! ALSO PUSH FIRMLY UNTIL YOU FEEL A CLICK AND IT IS LEVEL.

PARKING: If you are arriving by automobile, this is a tricky little intersection. If you miss the proper turn, you may have to drive up to 3/4 of a mile out of the way to get back to where you need to be.
APPROACHING FROM ADMIRALTY WAY: Turn left into parking lot just after Mindanao Way. Park at parking coords provided below, which are behind The Counter and CPK. If you miss this turn, you will need to turn left on Fiji Way, left on Lincoln, left on Mindanao Way, and left on Admiralty Way. Alternately, you can zip over and turn RIGHT on Fiji Way and make first U-turn. Turn left, back onto Admiralty Way and go up about 650 feet and go right into main entrance.
APPROACHING FROM LINCOLN ON FIJI WAY: Turn west off of Lincoln on Fiji and make immediate right into shopping center where West Marine and CPK are. If you miss the turn, continue to Admiralty Way and make the very first turn there, and then another immediate right turn to parking coords. If you've never been to The Counter, go after your adventure. Awesome burgers! And they have beer too!

(This is as far as you need to read unless you wish to learn the rich history of Marina del Rey and the interesting story behind the cache container.)

Greetings all from HCR! This one has an amazing story behind it.

Thousands of many years ago, Baron von Dellray discovered this natural harbor created solely by nature. The natives named it "Marina del Rey" after Dellray. Marina is the Inuit term for "shelter of boats," and del is Swedish for "of." They misspelled his last name of "Dellray" into "del Rey."

Just to the south, there were vast feilds of useless, benign nothingness. He mined them, which resulted in the man-made Ballona Wetlands. (named after his favorite luncheon meat.) The resultant muds from dredging were deposited upon this spit of land known as Pheegiun Whey. (Which the street the cache is on was named after, Fiji Way.) It's where islanders strained whey from the milk of indigenous cows. The weight of the dredged sludge pushed down on the geostraphic mesosphere and spherirocal sphere of the earthan crusts. The resultant forces squeezed up di-metho oxonikinol expropriate (M2OE,) which revealed massively tiny gas deposits that Dellray took note of.

Upon the discovery of gas deposits, drilling began. The high pressures of these pockets required controlled venting. Dellray thus invented the "Controlled Release High Pressure Flare-Out Preventative Release Valve." (CRHPFOPRV, as most of you refer to it of course.) Scientists hailed it as "...the most unnecessarily excessive use of verbiage, to describe a thing" and agreed, even to this day, that this patented device was "stupid." So stupid and ugly, that an admiral of the British Navy, Admiral Whey, (coincidental name and also the man that the cross street was named after, Admiralty Way,) patented a metal shell named the "Controlled Release High Pressure Flare-Out Preventative Release Valve Shell Alembic Cask," (CRHPFOPRVSACZ,) to conceal the ugly device. (The additional "Z" at the end of the acronym is still a mystery, even still to this day. Still.)

This one is the only one that ever went into production since it was considered even more stupid, considering it was made as a housing for something stupider.

You will be looking for this little piece of history, the "CRHPFOPRVSACZ." Tons of muggles, but all in cars at the light staring at you trouncing on this historic land. 10,000 Super-Glow Fun-Time™ reward points awarded to anyone who can figure out what that "Z" stands for*. Because I sure as heck don't know and I made it up.

*Super-Glow Fun-Time™ reward points redeemable only on Pan-Am, TWA, Eastern and Trump Shuttle. Blackout restrictions apply.

One or two of the above accounts have been embellished for caching entertainment. A couple others were fictionalized. Most, however, were embellitionalized. Refer to spoiler so you will know what to and what not to use for educational purposes.

PLEASE ENSURE ZIP-LOCK IS SEALED. CACHE CONTAINER ITSELF IS VERY NOT WATERTIGHT AS YOU WILL SEE.

My next cache is tentatively titled "What's That?!?" I'm sooo looking forward to it. Hopefully I'll know what it is before I implement it. But until then, get your cache on!!!

CONGRATS TO PGILLEN FOR BEING THE FTF!
