CACHE WAS MOVED ON OCTOBER 3rd. NEW COORDS ARE LISTED.

Rehoboth Beach’s Silver Lake

Silver Lake in Rehoboth Beach has been designated as a natural treasure of Delaware and the United States. One of three freshwater lakes in Rehoboth, it’s a quiet and relaxing section at the beach.  Most of the land around the lake is private but the lake has never been included in any sale.

A waterfowl refuge of over forty acres, hundreds of ducks, geese and other waterfowl settle here during the winter months. You may even be lucky enough to see a monk parakeet. Back in the 1970’s, someone released monk parakeets in the area and they stayed around until the 90’s.   Some say they are still here but hard to find.

Delaware Birding Trail (www.delawarebirdingtrail.org) gives this description:
"Silver Lake, a small pond nestled amongst the cottages of Rehoboth Beach, offers thrillingly close looks at a variety of wintering duck species, especially Canvasbacks. It is also the most reliable place in the state to find Redheads, one or two of which can often be picked out from the hundreds of Canvasbacks, Ruddy Ducks and Mallards. Lesser and Greater scaup also occur, along with a variety of gulls and other waterbirds."
