Molto tempo fa, negli anni di Napoleone, ma anche molto prima, gli eserciti europei che dovevano attraversare le alpi, sceglievano la strada più corta: il San Gottardo. Al passaggio di un'armata, i soldati in cerca di cibo, vestiti e soldi, passavano attraverso i villaggi, saccheggiandoli. Le popolazioni hanno così cominciato a costruire delle case sulle montagne circostanti dove poter nascondere i loro beni e trovare rifugio. Queste cascine erano anche usate quale sosta durante la transumanza. Ultimamente le cascine hanno perso le loro funzioni originarie e fungono da residenza di villeggiatura durante l'estate. Il mio bisnonno, con i suoi parenti, ha costruito una Cascina sopra Airolo, in questo posto ho passato molte delle mie estati in compagnia di mio nonno. Costruendo capanne sugli alberi, e facendo passeggiate nel bosco. Questo è il mio piccolo angolo di paradiso che ora vorrei condividere con voi.
Prima di cominciare la ricerca di questo cache ci sono alcune cose importanti. La zona dove si trovano i waypoint dal terzo al finale si chiama Cassina e si può raggiungere in diversi modi a seconda della vostra auto e della vostra preparazione fisica, quindi siate saggi e onesti e scegliete quanto fa per voi. Qui sotto c'è una mappa e una descrizione per ogni opzione possibile. Inoltre i punti descritti sono salvati nei punti GPS del cache.
Sentieri
Löita
Dal secondo waypoint vi inerpicherete su una salita molto ripida, fuori da sentieri demarcati, con una semplice traccia. C'è una casa in sasso un centinaio di metri sopra il secondo waypoint: da lì salite in verticale e troverete la traccia a breve. Per salire questo sentiero è richiesta una buona condizione fisica e, non essendoci sentieri, un GPS in caso vi smarriste, è consigliato.
The road
Dal secondo waypoint c'è una strada sterrata che vi porta fino alla Cassina. Questa strada è a tratti pure ripida ma non eccessivamente difficile da percorrere a piedi.
Possibilità di parcheggio
P1 Non voglio guidare la mia nuova auto su una strada sterrata o ho tanta voglia di camminare.
Ottimo! Come ai vecchi tempi quando la strada ancora non esisteva: parcheggia a "Valle", nel parcheggio in asfalto indicato come punto P1. Da lì raggiungerai la Cassina in circa 250m di dislivello e 2-3km a dipendenza del sentiero scelto. .
P2 La mia auto è a due trazioni ma non mi spiace sporcarla su una strada sterrata o vorrei raggiungere il cache più velocemente.
Bene, allora guida fino al primo waypoint del cache, poi continua sulla strada fino al secondo, lì nel praticello di fronte alla stalla puoi lasciare la tua auto. Da qui ci sono solo 150m di dislivello e 1-1.5km a dipendenza se scegli di salire la ripida Löita o prendertela comoda sulla strada.
P3 La mia auto è quattro trazioni e sono in grado di guidare su una strada molto stretta.
Sei avventuroso! Allora segui le istruzioni come per raggiungere il P2 e continua sulla strada sterrata fino al primo tornante completo a destra. Lì c'è pure una panchina, accanto puoi lasciare l'auto e proseguire a piedi sulla strada sterrata: la Cassina è a soli 110m di dislivello e 1 km.
P4 La mia auto è un pick up, un SUV o una Jeep 4x4, sono un guidatore esperto e sono capace di guidare su una strada molto stretta e piena di buche.
In questo caso puoi raggiungere la Cassina con il tuo veicolo, dopo aver raggiunto il P3, inserisci le quattro trazioni e prosegui sulla strada sterrata fino al prossimo waypoint.

A long long time ago, in the year of Napolion, but also before, european armies which needed to cross the alps, used the quickest way: the St. Gottard pass. When an army passed, soliders looking for food, clothes and money went through villages, sacking and terrorizing inhabitants, therefore the local population started building houses on the sides of the mountains where the could escape and store all the goods they had when an army was passing. These houses were named "cascine". Also they were used as a stop to let cows and animals rest when going up or down to the alpine pastures. Recently a "Cassina" is also used as a place where to go on holidays to enjoy the nature. My great-grandfather built with his relatives one of the houses that you are going to see in "Cassina", in this place I spent my summers as a child, with my grandfather, playing in the woods*, climbing on trees. This is my little corner of paradise that today I want to share with you. Before starting with the search of this cache you must know some very important things. The area where the waypoints from the third to the final are located is named Cassina (local name form mountain houses) and you can reach it through three ways, depending on you car and on your physical preparation so be honest and choose the one that suits you. There are four parkings where you can park and two different trails to reach "Cassina". Here you have a map and a description for every option you can take. Also the Löita trail and the parkings are embed into cache's waypoints.
Trails
Löita
From the second waypoint you will climb up a very steep area, off trail, with only animals tracks going up. There is a small stone house hundred meters above the gravel road, from there climb up straight, you will soon find a track. Just follow up and you will quickly get up. A good physical preparation and a GPS are a must to take this way, which is the one we traditionally took to "Cassina"
The road
From the second waypoint just follow the gravel road, till you get to the third. The road also becomes quite steep going up but it is the easiest way to get to "Cassina"
Parkings
P1 I don't want to drive my new car on a dirty gravel road or I am a real hiker/walker. Great! Like in the old nice days where there was no road and no car to go up the mountain. You will have to walk all the way up the 250m height and about 2-3km (depending if you choose to take the Löita or the road). I suggest you to leave your car in Valle, a small village, where there is a nice paved parking.
P2 My car only has 2 motion, I don't mind getting it a little bit dirty driving on a gravel road and I want to get to the cache quickly. Good, then drive your car to the first waypoint and then continue to the second, there you can park on the grass in front of the small house, from there there are just 150m height left and 1-1.5km walk depending if you decide to climb up the steep Löita or to walk up the easier road.
P3 My car is 4x4 and I don't mind driving on a VERY NARROW road. You are adventurous! In this case do as if you were taking P2), but instead of leaving the car there, continue on the gravel road till you reach a 180° turn to the right. There is also a nice bench, just beside it you can leave your car and continue your walk up the gravel road. At this point you are just 110m height and 1km away from the next waypoint.
P4 I have a 4x4 pick up, SUV or Jeep and I am an experienced driver, I am able to drive on a VERY NARROW road, which is FULL OF HOLES Good, this is the time to use your car's 4 motion and suspensions, after passing P3) make sure that 4x4 are on and continue up the road, you will easily reach the third way point of this multi, you can leave there the car, on the side of the road.
