This cache has been archived.

Reviewer Revan: Cache Owner (CO) has not responded, so I am regretfully archiving this cache to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking new cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace this cache sometime in the future (not to exceed 10 days from the date of this entry), just contact me (by e-mail), and assuming it still meets the current Guidelines, I will consider unarchiving this cache.

Please be advised this is not a guarantee that this geocache will be unarchived. Many factors will go into my decision. The most important of which is how you responded to geocachers who tried to communicate with you regarding the problem(s) with this geocache hide and how you communicated with me, the Reviewer Revan.

Geocache Description:

This is my second geocache. I am creating a series on historical places in Wise County. It should be an easy park and grab.   I welcome any feedback. CONGRATULATIONS FIREHAZARD ON THE FIRST TO FIND!!!!!!

This is the site where the old Flatwood School was located in 1882. In 1893 Flatwood ISD had 6,809 acres in Southern Wise County. In November 1893 the school sold 1 1/2 acres to the County Judge J.T. Johnson who acted in all school matters, as a superintndent would today. The same property was used in 1899 for the new school and church.
Early records show 60 students were enrolled in 1916.  On May 4, 1925 Flatwood School was classified as an elementary school doing seven year work with a 4 class high school. The enrollment in 1925 was 35 students.  In April 1928, a 35 signature petition was submitted requesting the board to consolidate with Paradise ISD.
The school building remained as a community center and during the depression years matresses were made there. The Methodist church met at Flatwood until 1935.  At some point during it's history the Baptist and Methosidt church alternated sunday services. The building stood vacant between 1935 and 1945. The building was torn down in 1960 and replaced by the new church building.
