Beetlejuice is a 1988 American comedy horror film directed by Tim Burton, produced by The Geffen Film Company and distributed by Warner Bros. The movie title and character are named after a bright red star in the constellation of Orion, Betelgeuse. The plot revolves around a recently deceased young couple who become ghosts haunting their former home and an obnoxious, devious "bio-exorcist" named Betelgeuse from the underworld who tries to scare away the new inhabitants permanently. Beetlejuice was a financial and critical success, grossing $73.7 million from a budget of $13 million. The film spawned an animated television series that Burton produced. In February 2012, Michael Keaton met with screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith to discuss a possible Beetlejuice sequel.
