Geocache Description:

A quick meet and greet, in a "chilly" location. We will meet at the snowmen characters at 10:00 p.m. . The event will be short, depending on how many people are participating in the race. The year long Travel Bug race will begin at this meeting, and people can also trade some trackables if you have any travelers coming with you.

PLEASE POST IN YOUR WILL ATTEND LOG IF YOU PLAN ON PARTICIPATING IN THE RACE

Travel bug race I have held many events in my area, and also held a few in the Boardwalk area of Florida, but this is my first Travel Bug race event. If you are a geocacher that happens to be in this area at the time, you are more than welcome to come to the event to meet other cachers. But the real purpose of this event is to have your own Travel Bug entered into a year long race that will end September of 2013. We will meet up in the coolest place downtown, (Next to the snowmen statues of all the Disney characters). I will have a log sheet for everyone to sign into the event, and to copy down all the TB #'s. To participate in the race, all you have to do is bring a Travel Bug of your own (it must be registered under your geocaching dot com username). It doesnt have to be a new Travel Bug, but none of the other entries before the event date will count towards your points. You can purchase any trackable item that is trackable on Geocaching dot com (so we can keep track of the item). There are very cost effective travel tags out there, just purchase one, and activate it, and your all set to go. The Travel Bug numbers will all be shared at the event so you can add them all to a watch list, or just to keep track of everyones travelers to see who is winning. After the event, you are free to place your Travel bug in any geocache that you want. The scoring process of your Bug starts with the first log after your placed in a geocache log. Your Travel Bugs will earn points for various things along its travels.

*The Travel Bug

DOES NOT

earn any points just by visiting or dipping a geocache. It must be placed in the cache to be picked up by another person to earn the point.* I will be keeping track of the TB's and posting the scores monthly on This website. All participants are encouraged to write down the numbers of all the bugs in the race in the event that I make a mistake in my calculating. That way we can all keep our eyes our for mistakes, and correct points awarded. I will be bringing along a couple extra travel tags (I only have a few) that you can purchase for $5.00 in the event that you do not have a tag, and would like to participate in the race. They are only available on first come first serve, because I don't have many. If you wish to participate, I encourage you to have a traveler already before the event date.

Now for the rules of the race:

1:Points for mileage will be based on the miles recorded on the TB’s webpage. On the last day of the month, the miles traveled will be added, then the total divided by 100, and rounded off to the nearest whole number. The lowest number given each month will be 1. (Example 1: A TB travels 47 miles for the month. The total would only be .47 points, but the bug receives 1 point, since every TB receives at least one point per month for mileage. Example 2: A TB travels 935 miles, the points would be 9.35, then rounded off to 9 points.)

2:TBs will score points for border crossings. However, regarding state borders: Only “new” borders will be counted once per cacher. We want to avoid a TB that is moved back and forth repeatedly between the same states by the same cacher, since this falsely racks-up points. If a TB leaves The United States, only international borders will be counted, not provincial or state borders within that country.

3:Points for posting pictures will only be awarded once per cacher. TBs receiving multiple pix from one cacher will not earn extra points, though it is encouraged to help document the TBs travels.

4: If a TB visits a cache that has either a difficulty or terrain rating of 2.5 or higher, it will earn points for D/T.

5: Points for attending an event are only awarded once per event.

6: If a TB attends a CITO or MEGA event, it earns points for that event, only. In other words, a TB does NOT receive points for attending a CITO event, plus points for attending an event, a total of 70 points; it would receive 50 points, only.

7:In the event a situation arises that is not addressed by the rules, the host, reserves the right to make judgment.

8: Once you drop your Travel Bug into a cache, you are not allowed to retrieve it, or move it along to help it in the race. If it gets stuck in a geocache for too long, and you decide to move it, you DO NOT get any points for the move. Your points will continue from the previous score, and continue after you place it in a new location.

9: The race will go until September 19th, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. After that time, no more points are awarded to your score. I will get a final score and the winner will be announced. The prize for the winner will be announced at a later date, but it will be mailed to you.

10: The most important rule is; HAVE FUN with the race. Keep in mind, it is only a race and is intended for fun purposes.

* Like all travelers, there is a risk of your traveler going missing, and is in no way the responsibility of the race organizer. *

as mentioned before, please keep an eye on This website for updates on the race, and for very special messages about points.
