Geocache Description:

Welcome to St Joseph's Polish
National Catholic Cemetery

St Joseph's Polish National Catholic Cemetery sits along Highway 59. Access is available from either direction.

This little cemetery is extremely interesting because of it's long name, because the north and south spans of the highway have been detoured to curve around the cemetery, the relative small amount of headstones, and because each corner of the cemetery houses a small birdhouse.

The cemetery is associated with the St. Joseph Polish National Catholic Church, located 1.5kms south of here on Highway 59 at Libau.
There is another St. Joseph's Polish National Catholic Cemetery in Beausejour, plus another four Polish National Catholic Cemeteries throughout Manitoba; most notably St Mary's Polish National Catholic Cemetery in Winnipeg on McIvor Avenue.

Saint Joseph is the husband of Mary the mother of Jesus, and the earthly father of Jesus. As a carpenter by trade, he is the patron saint of workers, as well as the patron saint of cabinet makers, confectioners and pastry makers. He is also the patron saint of ordinary people. He was also declared to be the patron saint and protector of the Catholic Church by Pope Pius IX in 1870. Furthermore, Joseph is the patron of several countries and regions, such as Austria, Belgium, Bohemia, Canada, China, Croatia, Korea, Mexico, Peru and Vietnam. The cities of Baton Rouge, San Jose, Cheyenne, Buffalo, Florence and Turin also list Joseph as their patron saint. It is no surprise that he is also listed as the patron saint of fathers.
The Catholic Church has canonized several other people named Joseph, such as Saint Josepth of Arimathea, Saint Joseph Marello, Saint Joseph of Leonessa, Saint Joseph of Cupertino, etc.
