The cache has been placed in a lovely little public garden in the centre of Congleton.
The Garden has been recently dedicated to the Queens Diamond Jubilee. Congleton is a small market town in the cheshire area on the edge of the cheshire plains. It was first mentioned in the doomsday book and has the nickname of "Beartown" this comes from an incident during Elizabethan times when bear baiting was a popular sport. It is believed that the town bear died before the annual Wakes (or holiday), so it was decided by the towns folk that they should use the money that they had saved up to buy a new town bible and instead purchase a new bear so that the celebrations would continue. The former mayor of congleton John Bradshaw, was president of the court which sent Charles I to be beheaded in 1649, and it is his signature as Attorney General that shows as the first on the king's death warrant. A local public house not too far from the cache site has a blue plaque, placed by the Congleton Civic Society, which tells of the pub being built in the 16-17th century. It is said to have housed the attorney's office where John Bradshaw, served his articles. The cache is a nano so please bring a pen, stealth may be required at times as the area is very popular.
