Geocache Description:

This is an EarthCache so there will not be a container to seek. I hope you find the feature you discover at the posted coordinates to be interesting and worth the visit. It is located on the public beach at Roque Bluffs State Park and is available 24/7 although there is a fee for parking during daylight hours.

Most beaches located in Downeast Maine are composed of cobbles. This one is unusual since it is comprised of both sand as well as small rounded rocks due to the erosion of a glacial moraine. As the climate warmed and the glacier melted it deposited sediment comprised of material it had collected. The resulting mixture resulted in this unusual beach.

At the posted coordinates on an outcropping of exposed bedrock you will be able to see evidence of the glacier's movement. To log this cache find the two deep and obvious striations which resulted as the glacier passed over the bedrock leaving visible scars. Through my profile e-mail what you can infer by the direction that the glacier travelled as well as the width of each striation.
