This cache is in a mini series of mine that you can walk around the Glossop parameter; it can also include local cache sites on the way. The cache is located in Old Glossop which has links with the Dukes of Norfolk through marriage in 1606. I have decided to re-name this cache in order to commemorate Beatrix Potter's birth 150 years ago with a geocache series.
Beatrix Potter bought Hill Top farm in a village in the Lake District and this led to Beatrix becoming established as a major owner of Herdwick sheep in the area. She purchased additional farms to preserve the unique hill country landscape and she left thousands of acres to the National Trust for us, the public to enjoy. What a great and talented woman! The cache can be the start of a nice walk around the area beginning at Old Glossop; walk up to the top of the hill on Hope Street, then go pass the scout hut and the local brewery, following a footpath up to the left and onto a quarry. The cache is hidden on a hill looking down onto the quarry. It is a walk you can do with dogs and children over 4 years old, but not accessible for wheelchair/disabled cachers.
Over many centuries, Glossop has had cotton mills. The trains arrived in the 1830s and aircraft crashes over the moors. Modern Glossop is now re-inventing itself and worth a visit by any serious cacher.
