Geocache Description:

This is a multi cache set along the footpaths and old railway line above the Dorset village of Spetisbury, it will also take you up the Hillfort otherwise known as The Spetisbury Rings, where you can enjoy some fantastic views across the Dorset countryside.

Spetisbury is dominated at its southern extremity by Spetisbury Rings, previously known as Crawford Castle or Castle Rings. This well preserved early Iron Age hill fort, formed by a single embankment and ditch, probably accounts for the later village being here. During the building of the railway in the late 1850s, two massed graves were found close to the rings containing 50 and 40 skeletons respectively. At least two of the occupants had met a violent end as both their skulls were perforated and one had a spearhead still embedded.. This single rampart Iron Age hillfort overlooking the River Stour may have been left unfinished. As It has one entrance to the north-west, top.

The cache is a walk of over 1 mile that is set along part of the disused railway line, a good level hard based track, and some of the footpaths around the hill fort, these after rain can become wet and muddy. There is also a small very steep section up onto the fort, because of this it is unsuitable for wheelchairs and strollers.

To find the cache you will need to collect some information along the way, before doing some sums ( Checksum provided ) to gain the co-ords for the final cache location

The given co-ords are for the trailway itself, these updated questions replace the ones that were formerly used before the bench's in the questions were removed. You are looking for a sign as you enjoy a walk along the disused railway line, where you will have to answer a some questions, before enjoying a walk along the disued railway line, to a given waypoint for a gap in the hedgerow that will lead you onto a footpath that takes you up to the hillfort and a final question, that will enable you to find the cache after doing the sums that are on the cache page. There is parking available at the school, outside of school hours and at weekends, we have also supplied a waypoint for further parking but please don't block access to the garages. Whilst doing this multi you may be able find other caches hidden around Spetisbury.

A waypoint has been added for a gap in the hedgerow that connects the footpaths between Q1 & Q2.
