Geocache Description:

The Maryland National Road is part of six-state 700 mile road system that connected Baltimore to East St. Louis, Missouri (this was before trains, planes and automobiles were available, just livestock power). The road was started in 1806 and was intended to connect the cities of the East coast with the new cities being built along the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. There was very specific criteria for the road construction and markers along the road. One such requirement was that stones were to be set up at 1-mile intervals along the road giving the distance to the city. This cache is placed at the Milestone that is inscribed "35 M To B" which translates to "35 Miles to Baltimore." See how much of the inscription, that was carved over 200-years ago, you can read when you look for the cache.
