A beautiful walk across the hill to the abandoned settlement of Sletell where heather moorland gives way to green pasture and formerly cultivated land. There is a well marked path but conditions are a little rough and boggy in places.
The cache is easy to find if you have a good wander around the village. Suggest you allow two to three hours and spend some time exploring the village and coastline.
Sletell lost its last resident in 1960 and has been slowly disappearing back into the landscape since then. This is almost a multi-cache with a small container hidden at the co-ordinate location containing some information and a clue to the main cache in a very similar hide elsewhere in the settlement. The main cache consists of two containers, one a traditional geocache, the other should give you some hints as to what life was once like in this idyllic looking spot - please do not remove items from the latter as these are for future visitors to enjoy. Created as part of the Strathnaver Museum Artist in residence programme 2012, initial trade items include original hand printed artwork.
