The cache is not at the posted coordinates. This is a paddle-to hide located on the Millstone River.
This area was settled in the early eighteenth century and was originally known as Mill Berry. When the Delware & Raritan Canal was built during the nineteenth century (1830-1836), an aqueduct was constructed to carry the canal over the Millstone River and the area became known as Aqueduct Mills or Aqueduct. The buildings associated with the settlement of Aqueduct are now under water as a result of the construction of Carnegie Lake in the early twentieth century. Carnegie Lake is named for Andrew Carnegie who donated $135,000 for its construction. Prior to that time, the Princeton University rowing team practiced on the Delaware & Raritan Canal which was dangerous due to the heavy barge barge traffic.
To find this cache, proceed to the given parking (see additional waypoints) and search near the water for a historical marker which describes a nearby industry that was present before the area was known as Aqueduct. You do not need to cross the bridge to find the marker -- it is southwest of the parking (towards the road) . Answer the following questions to get the coordinates for the final cache. The cache is at N40 20.ABC W74 37.DEF
A = third digit of earliest date
B = second digit on twelfth line of text (including title)
C = number of letters in first word
D = second (or third) digit of latest date
EF = last two digits of sale price in second paragraph
The cache is a bison tube only accessible by boat. It is in the general vicinity of the location of the former industry. There is a spot to launch about 50 feet southwest of the historical marker (towards the road). If you don't own a boat, There is a canoe/kayak rental place at the D&R canal at Alexander Road. You can get into Lake Carnegie from there and carry across the pedestrian bridge at Mapleton Road to get to the launch. You could probably also launch an inflatable type boat here as there is virtually no current due to the aqueduct. Update July 17, 2015: although the final cache is not located on state land and therefore this listing does not require a permit, the parking area and virtual waypoint are located within the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park. Please observe park hours which are between sunrise and sunset. Do not enter the State Park before sunrise or after sunset.
