In honor of my son’s fascination, and incredibly vast knowledge of prehistoric animals (you might even call it an obsession), I have created this series of dinosaur caches. My goal is to eventually place a cache for a dinosaur of each letter of the alphabet. Yep, there are dinosaurs that start with the letters X,Y, & Z.
The Jobaria was a sauropod dinosaur from the Jurassic period. It was discovered in the Sahara Desert in 1997. They were thought to be about 18 meters long, comparable to other sauropods like the diplodocus and Apatosaurus. Unlike diplodocus and Apatosaurus, the Jobaria was thought to be able to rear up on its hind legs (as in elephants).
I hid this multi on a hike through sligo creek with my son (the dino expert). After showing him where the previous 9 dino caches were hidden, he insisted on helping me hide this one (as well as number 11). It was nice to have a little helper to point out some choice hiding spots, and to share one of his dinosaurs for stage 1. After throwing about 100 rocks into the creek, we decided it was time to expand our search for a hiding spot for stage 2. We decided to cross the creek….if you are 4 years old and don’t have any concerns about getting your feet wet, just walk straight across. If you are a bit more cautious and would prefer to keep your feet dry (like me), just hop from rock to rock to get across. There is a trail that is on the other side of the creek (the far side) that will take you to the small park just north, or will meet up with the paved trail just past the foot bridge heading south…..so you have other options to get to the other side, it will just take a little longer. If you cross the creek near stage 1, you do not have to travel that far to reach stage 2, or the final stage. (Needing to get to the park, cut our geocache hiding short).
The final is a small lock n lock, with a log, a small dinosaur, and a pathtag for the FTF. You should bring an extraction tool and some boots if you plan on taking the quick and fun way across the creek. Please hide the cache as you found it
You can find parking along Sligo Creek Parkway close to the cache. Watch out for thorns and poison ivy, as they might be present along the trail. Consider bringing a trash bag and help out with a little CITO.
Happy Dinosaur Hunting!!!
***as with all of my caches, feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns***
***Congratulations to JulieBob on FTF!!!***.
