Geocache Description:

The TOTAL JOINT REPLACEMENT
This series is based on something I am very passionate about.  Not only has it been the main source of my income for almost 2 decades, it also has shown me the best and worst of the human race....

As we age, our joints have a tendancy to become a problem.  The problem being that the cartilage that our joints rely on for cushion as they bend and rotate starts to wear out.  Depending on several factors, including lifestyle, health, genetics, and age, the joints through out your body will all have some wear eventually.  And at some point the pain from the 'bone on bone' crunching will affect normal functions like walking or raising your hand to get the sugar off the top shelf.  At this point a joint replacement becomes necessary.  Over my years I have replaced various joints including hips, knees, shoulders, finger joints, and elbows.  I know there are also replacements for wrists and ankles.  Hips and Knees are the most widely replaced, and return millions of people back to a normal physical lifestyle that had been altered due to the pain caused by osteoarthritis in the joints.
To learn more about how these procedures are done there is a website where you can actually 'perform' a virtual hip and/or knee arthroplasty.  This website has other interesting learning tools as well...
