This cache has been archived.

Ruru_nz: Sadly this one has had it's day.
When place it was (from memory) one of the first in Bell Block. Since them there have been many more come and go to lead you here.
Brown Owl passed away a few years ago, but other family have been able to keep an eye on it. Situations change though, so it's time it say goodbye.
Thanks to those who found it over it's lifespan.

Geocache Description:

About time there were more puzzle caches in Taranaki to get your grey matter ticking over...
I was born and bred here and my Mum is happy to do any cache maintenance that is necessary inbetween my visits back home.

You won't find anything at the published co-ordinates- don't go there it's on school grounds.

When I was at school here there was a 3 roomed classroom block in this part of the school. One year I was in the first classroom, the library in the second and the third was used as a room for showing films. I remember our room still had a pot-belly like stove, but it wasn't used.

You will need to find the co-ordinates for the town according to wikipedia, and translate them to degrees and decimal minutes. (Coming soon: If you put your answer into the geochecker it will confirm your translation.)
Now you need to add some decimal minutes to each of the S and E co-ords. so time for some research.

Bell Block is a named after the man who purchased the original block of land from the local iwi in 18AB.

This man (who is he?) also has a street named after him in a settlement to the south.  There is currently controversy over the spelling of the name of this town, but the pre 1854 name had C letters.

Education in Bell Block began in about 1856 when the Methodist church allowed the use of their chapel for lessons.  In 18DE under the Taranaki Education Reserve Act (of 1871) a school was built on a triangular piece of land lying between Chesney Street and Devon Road. This school had F classrooms.
The school building still occupy thyis site, but Chesney Street between the shops and Wynyard Street was closed off long ago and the land on the other side of the whjat was the road is now the play ground.  Amazingly, although the orginal Devon Road was renamed as Bell Block Court and Pohutukawa Place after the bypass was built, google maps still shows the "parking area" outside the shops to be Chesney Street.

K = F
L = D
M = C

N = D-C
O = A*E
P = C-E

Now, ignoring the decimal point, ADD KLM to the decimal part of the minutes for S for the converted wikipedia coords
ADD NOP to the decimal part of the minutes for E for the converted wikipedia coords

November 2017 - Cache calculations are up to date after hiccups over the last 12 months. No extra cacluclations needed.
