How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

The easiest cache imaginable. It can be completed at your own level of difficulty with the option of helping a victim of question marks and high terrain requirements.

Owl and Raven live in cachers' hell. The map for their location is covered with question marks and caches with ridiculously high terrain ratings.

Owl is a middle-aged bird who has never been rock-climbing, bungy-jumping or canoeing. Her fitness level is not high and the one attempt to find a cache on Black Hill had to be aborted before her already high blood pressure exploded. Even when young she was always picked last for any sporting team.

Despite being reasonably intelligent, she has never been able to solve Mensa puzzles and successfully completing Sudoku is a cause for celebration. Even multi-caches are difficult as she seems to muck up the numbers.

Raven is younger and fitter, but is becoming more interested in boys, computers and music than caching and refuses to do the difficult caches for Owl.

To make matters worse, a ferocious pack of FTFers live in the area, thwarting any attempt by the technologically inept duo to claim a local FTF. (They had to go to the Flinders Ranges for their first and only one.)

If you are in the same situation, then this cache is for you!

This cache has multiple levels of both difficulty and terrain. You may claim a FTF for any combination.

The cache starts at 1 difficulty/1 terrain. If you want to attempt the cache at this level you must explain why this is the limit of your capabilities – just as Owl has. If you fail to do so, it will be assumed that you have the intellect of David Beckham and the physique of Stephen Hawking, rather than the other way around. (With thanks to Ian the Ump for this fabulous description.)

To claim a higher level you must perform an equivalent task to the difficulty or terrain level and provide photographic proof of your activity. Of course, for difficulty 2 or higher the easiest way to do this is to provide Owl and Raven with instructions on how to solve an Adelaide district mystery cache. For terrain 2 or higher you could choose to either detail why a highly rated terrain cache is not as hard as it seems and could easily be completed by a shuffling Owl or claim a level 2.5 terrain or higher cache on behalf of Owl and Raven so they can put smiley faces on their caching map. (A photo of the log must be uploaded with your claim.)

FTFers will be immortalised in the cache description.

You will need to bring your own pen.

Finally, for those frustrated by failing to find the things on guns, chant with us: No nanos, no nanos, NO NANOS!!!

Note: Before placing this cache, Owl went for a short walk along the Torrens River and completed an online Suduko, making this temporarily a 2/2 cache.

Final note: Geocaching rules prevent enforcement of any of the above conditions and logs will not be deleted for failing to comply. So if cachers want to be completely boring and dull, feel free... but where's the fun in that?
!!!

Update: The council has removed the seat the original cache was on. A new location has been devised. Please leave the cache attached and just unscrew.!!!

First to Find Honours (difficulty/terrain)

After reviewing the exorbitant claims of terrain level, Owl is reassured that there are lots more cachers out there who don’t like excessive exercise, but the judges have decided to made some adjustments and award the following FTFs:

1/1: Izwalk (sensibly doesn’t do hills)
1/1.5: Darknstormy (walked up from the river)
1/2: Squizzie (walked up from the Torrens water level)
1/2.5: Team Scoobster & Honeysucker (because Owl is feeling generous after joining them for some FTFs and they have promised photos of the tree hoisting)
1/3: ConnietheKombi (walked around the creek)
1/3.5: RideTheGeoWalrus (Short hike up Black Hill)
1/4: FeatherWaite (28 caches up hills and down valleys)
1/4.5: Team Wibble (20km bike ride)
1/5: Reserved for Zytheran.

1.5/1: 3Limepie (not paying attention)
1.5/1.5: Uncle Hagrid (using phone/ walked up from the river)
1.5/2: BixbyMG (Made more difficult by novice cacher & 6km loop walk)
1.5/3: Davidwazza (Long walk along the Torrens and new grassed location)

2/2: Muff1 (hidden by previous finder in a more difficult place/slopes)
2/3: SA Sewer Rats (caching day out with walking and rock climbing)
2/3.5: Blackadders (caching day out with walking and tree climbing after major surgery)
2/4: If (unspecified length bike ride and help with 2 difficulty puzzle)
2/4.5: Sushilord (20km bike ride and attempted Owl Hates Question Marks cache)
2/5: Destroy_Stone (Combination walk/run/climb of over 7.5km under cover of darkness and some star identification work)

3/2: AnyMules (3 puzzles found and 2 terrain cache by the river)
