Geocache Description:

Cache is dedicated to ultra marathon cyclist Jure Robič. Near by is a memorial. The cycling path is named after him. Rehide the cache well and leave it as you found it! BE CAREFULL AT PLACING STONES BACK SO YOU DON'T DAMAGE THE BOX.

Jure Robič je bil najuspešnejši slovenski kot tudi svetovni ekstremni kolesar. Že v otroštvu se je zaljubil v kolo. Na Jesenicah rojeni ultramaratonec, ki je kot poklicni vojak pripadnik prve brigade Slovenske vojske, je kolesarsko kariero začel v klubu Lip Bled, jo nadaljeval v novomeški Krki in kranjski Savi ter bil med letoma 1988 in 1994 član državne reprezentance in državni prvak. Nato se je posvetil ultramaratonskemu kolesarstvu.

V športni karieri je dosegel več kot 100 zmag in več kot 150-krat stal na zmagovalnih stopničkah. Med zadnje in največje uspehe zadnjih let spada rekordnih pet zmag na Race Across America - RAAM, najtežji športni preizkušnji na svetu, svetovni rekord v cestni vožnji na 24ur, dve zaporedni zmagi na dirki Le Tour Direct/Ultime, ultramaratonski različici klasičnega Toura, ki jo kolesarji namesto v 21 etapah prevozijo v eni sami, ter štiri zaporedne zmage na Dirki okoli Slovenije - Dos ras extreme, od leta 2007 do 2010.

Leta 2010 je zmagal na švicarski dirki Tortour 2010. Zmagal je tudi na Maratonu Franja, Juriš na Vršič, idr. Poleg športnih dosežkov je Jure Robič tudi prejemnik priznanja Športnik leta za posebne dosežke, Slovenec leta za posebne dosežke ter priznanja za fair play ter strpnost v športu.

Umrl je 24. septembra 2010 v prometni nesreči na gozdni poti na Plavškem Rovtu pri Jesenicah.

Jure Robič was a Slovenian cyclist and a soldier in the Slovenian Army. He died on 24 September 2010 in a traffic accident when he was hit by a car on a forest road in Plavški Rovt near Jesenice.

Robič won the Race Across America (RAAM) 5 times (a record in the men's solo category): in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2010. He was in second place at the final time station in 2009 when he dropped out to protest time penalties he had received. Robič swore never to enter RAAM again, but changed his mind and came back and won again in 2010.

On 19 September 2004, Robič broke the world 24-hour road record by cycling 834.77 km (518.70 mi). In 2005 he won Le Tour Direct, (7d 19h 40m) a 4,023 km (2,500 mi) race on a course derived from classic Tour de France routes. Jure won the DOS-Ras Race Across Slovenia four times, the Tour Direct twice and the Tortour in 2010.

During the 2004 Race Across America, it was reported that he had only eight hours of sleep during his eight-day, 2,958.5-mile (4,761.2 km) ride across the United States. From 1988 to 1994 Jure was part of the Slovenian Cycling National Team and he was also a National road champion. In his career he won more than 100 races and has been on the podium at least 150 times.
