14ERS AREN'T THE ONLY MOUNTAINS OUT THERE
This cache has been placed on top of one of Colorado's 584 13ers, Taylor Mountain. Elevation is 13,651 feet above sea level.
This had been one of my favorite mountains to summit, after doing a plethora of 12ers and 14ers. There is no trail to the top, so here is the route that I advise you take. First, as far as parking is concerned, you can drive up Road 228 for the part that it is well defined and less narrow until you reach a large quarry at N 33.900 W 104 17.335. This is the route that all vehicles should be able to travel on. If you are confident in your vehicle, you can continue on 228 where it goes to one lane and becomes rather steep on the sides. Park at the advised coordinates below on the tailings pile of the New York mine. You can now switchback hike up the smaller roads to the point where they end. Try to aim for the East ridge of Taylor, and once on top of that, there will be one last push to the top of about a 4-5 hundred foot elevation gain.
You should find some excellent views as you travel along, but you shouldn't find any insane crowds of fluorescent clothed hikers like you would on 14ers. The entire time I hiked this mountain, I only saw one hiker far below me and heading downhill, and one ATV that pulled up a small trail and turned around. There is one big reason to love the 13ers...
See the hint if you are having trouble finding the cache, it shouldn't be too difficult like some other summit hides. You are searching for a decon container.
