Pillbox Traditional Cache

A quick cache and dash right on the side of the road. There is no layby or proper parking spot nearby so please don't complain about the rubbish parking - you have been warned!! You may be able to pull onto the verge but be prepared to give this one a miss if the road is busy or the verge is squelchy!
I've always wondered about this pillbox and why it's there. Presumably because of it's proximity to RAF Tealing, a WW2 air base, and it's commanding views over the local area, so I googled it, and here's what I came up with:-
According to the Defence of Britain Archives, this is a type FW3/27 concrete Pillbox and is situated to the NE of Douglas Wood radar site and is part of a series of Pillboxes protecting a WW2 chain home radar station and transmitter near Downiebank.
The radar station at Douglas Wood is spread over three areas, the transmitter block and aerials; the receiver block and aerials and the accommodation camp. The installations were protected by at least five pillboxes. Many brick and concrete buildings and masts supports still exist over the area and are visible on aerial photographs. The radar site is now surrounded by woodland and is used as a Boy Scout Camp.
Now you know.
Just be glad you didn't have to man it - especially in adverse weather. Doesn't exactly look central heated. Another reminder Lest We Forget.
