Each of the 33 caches is named for a Manitoba community. Most are traditional caches. Two are multi caches where the final is hanging in a shrub directly across the road from the given coordinates. (Read that last sentence again to be sure you understand.) Ten of the caches are puzzles. There are ditches to cross and they may occasionally be wet or snowy - dress accordingly. Above all, we encourage you to enjoy this beautiful area with its multitude of kettle lakes (prairie sloughs) and the critters that call them home.
Altona is a town in the agriculturally rich part of southern Manitoba that was once the bottom of Lake Agassiz. Calling itself "The Sunflower Capital of Canada" the town celebrates the fourth weekend each July with the Sunflower Festival. The giant reproduction of Vincent van Gogh's "Sunflowers" was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records. An interesting fact about Altona is that it is home to Friesens Corporation which is the primary printer of yearbooks in North America.
