Fletcher Creek Ecological Preserve is a lovely nature walk in all seasons. Past an old rehabilitated quarrie, wetlands and through forest - this travel theme cache awaits discovery as you reflect on the past.
Off the beaten track, the Fletcher Creek Ecological Preserve is an abandoned quarry in Puslinch off Hwy 6 between Guelph and Hamilton. It has been rehabilitated (Hamilton Conservation Authority) and is therefore returning to a beautiful wetland with a lovely trail through scenic forest and past bubbling brook. Beautiful in all seasons, the trail has a couple of interpretive panels that explain its interesting history and the many rare plants (in the fen expansion) and other wildlife that live within it. Take some water to drink on a hot summer day although the trees provide a canopy in many places for shade (about 5 km round trip). Although the trail head is located on the 7th Concession, just north of Gore Road in Puslinch at N43 24.819 W80 07.246, we always start at the unmarked quarry end of the trail at N43o 25.178 W080o 06.142 and park easily on the wide gravel edge of the road near the opening. A long laneway winds around to the right and takes you in to the quarry floor. Look at the little fishes that dart as you cross the small bridge to get to the trail (up on your left). This is a travel theme cache in a small plastic container with a log book and pencil. Anything to do with travelling is welcome. Peaceful journey as you reflect on the past.
