Thanks for your help and thanks for coming and finding our caches, we hope you find them all!
We decided to do a series of some of the Bridges of Atchison County. No, we don't have covered bridges, but we do have some pretty neat old bridges, and some new ones. We hope you enjoy visiting some of them. While placing these caches, we came upon deer, buffalo, coyote, rabbits, and one ole hoot owl, that was telling me all about the area or told me to get out, I don't know which.
You know the drill: Not all of the roads in Atchison County are paved or gravel. Some of the roads are dirt roads, use caution, if the dirt roads are wet - DO NOT ATTEMPT!
Yep another nano.
Effingham, the seat of Atchison county high school, located 16 miles west of Atchison. It was located on the Central Branch railroad, and was first platted in April, 4, 1868. by William Osborne, who built the first hundred miles of the Central Branch Railroad. The original plat contained only eight blocks and was subsequently cancelled. February 6, 1871, Major W.F. Downs, land commissioner of the Central Branch railroad, filed another plat in which one plat was dedicated as a public park and the streets numbered from one to ten, with cross streets Elizabeth, Seabury, Howard, George, William and John. At the opening of the Central Branch railroad Effingham enjoyed quite a boom.
